PLOT TEXT, PLEASE HELP!!!

I am currently adding a score system to a game and I want to add the score system over the image of the map that is called. this is the code I've got so far

DO ! main game loop
REM: Show Menu page
BOX SHOW menu$ at 0,450
GET KEY key

REM: respond to menu choices
IF chr$(key)="2" THEN !explain_rules
CLEAR
CALL explain_rules ! then loop back to intro page
ELSEIF chr$(key)="1" then ! exit loop and start game
BOX SHOW map$ at 0,450
LET score = 0 !added for score system
PLOT TEXT,AT 57,87 :score !added for score system
EXIT DO
ELSEIF chr$(key)="3" then !difficulty_menu
CALL difficulty_menu
! do nothing because the user typed a wrong number
END IF
LOOP

before I added this the game worked fine, I could play it it worked it was nice so I wanted to add a score system so I added..

LET score = 0
PLOT TEXT,AT 57,87 :score

to the code...

ELSEIF chr$(key)="1" then ! exit loop and start game
BOX SHOW map$ at 0,450
EXIT DO

to make...

ELSEIF chr$(key)="1" then ! exit loop and start game
BOX SHOW map$ at 0,450
LET score = 0
PLOT TEXT,AT 57,87 :score
EXIT DO

But I get errors right before :score

I do not understand Why this would cause an error. the error is as follows...

C:\Users\Chunk\Desktop\PACMANDT3\PACMAN_WITH_DIFFICULTY_SELECT_ SCORE:57:30:Wrong type

When I click my error the insertion point goes rigth before the : in :score.

Just throwing this out there I DO HAVE a LET score=0 and when I want to gain points I DO HAVE a let score=score+100.

Please help with this issue, It's really frustrating me.

PLOT TEXT

Hi,

Although I have answered this problem in a separate e-mail, I am repeating the solution here because it may be of general interest.

Plot text is extremely useful and has certain properties that often make it a better choice than PRINT.

The correct syntax is:

PLOT TEXT, AT x,y: text$

The actual text you want to print on screen must be a STRING not a numeric variable.

Obviously you can convert the numeric variable to a string with:

str$(score)
