Stopping Running programs

I'm using the new TB 5.611 Beta on a Dell Vosto under Windows XP SP3. It works great except for being very difficult to stop running if I notice the program is generating nonsense or is in a loop etc. Clicking on EXIT often has no effect and the alleged Command line at the bottom of the window doesn't either as I am unable to enter text under these conditions in many cases.

In some cases, I can click on EXIT and choose not to actually exit the program. When this works, I can return to the formerly running program and make necessary corrections to the code.

Stopping Running programs

Everything seems to be working fine now, even the problem I've had occasionally when saving my work has not reappeared (automatically re-naming my program TRUE.tru).

STOP a running program

Hi,

It depends how you have written your program, but if you are just using the default output window then clicking the CLOSE window button should stop the program and return you to the editor.

As a general rule you should always make provision for an emergency exit from your program, e.g. the ESC key.

The command line in the editor cannot stop a running program because the editor is suspended during execution of your program. The editor resumes when your program stops.

The current TBsystem.exe program doesn't provide a means of stopping a running program. If I had the source code for TBsystem.exe then I could add this feature.

STOP a Running program

BigJohn: Thank you for your reply. I've had cases where CLOSEing the default output window does not stop the program. Another feature I've noticed is that occasionally a program I'm working on suddenly has its name changed to TRUE.TRU by the system. This makes saving it difficult. Fortunately, I save often using SAVE and SAVE AS under new names, so I haven't lost any work.

I'm running the version 5.611 under Windows XP SP3 on a Dell Vostro 430.

SAVING .TRU files

Hi,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I will check it out. Version 5.611 is like the old DOS version in that filenames with no extension automatically have .TRU added. For example; if you save "myfile" it will be saved as "myfile.tru".
